Most often home renovations are a part of accommodating the expanding needs of a growing family. This fabulous renovation and extension project in Israel was carried out by Mia Maik and Gilad Maik of the Maik Architects as they wished to convert the old house of their parents into a beautiful modern residence that would accommodate the needs of their young family. While the renovation project is aimed at bringing a distinct contemporary flair to the space there was a sincere effort made in trying to keep the unique and nostalgic charm of the existing structure intact.
An interplay of neutral and soft color tones paints the walls. The interior decor of the house was selected to represent a more modern and high-class lifestyle while exercising a magnitude of minimalism at the same time. Entering the house is in other words exploring uncharted territories of comfort and luxury. But in efforts to maintain the level of energy nature prescribes wood flooring and nature-themed furniture were brought in to flirt with the home’s urban chicness.
The double-height living space boasts a 14-meter-high structural glass wall protecting an inviting relaxation and entertaining zone. Here the Horse Lamp by Moooi sits next to Mies van der Rohe’s black Barcelona Chairs and a staircase leads up to the modern dining zone separated from the kitchen by a bamboo-decaled glass wall.
