The beautiful combination of contrasting textures starts with the façade of the home which features a glass and white cement exterior for the ground floor and a warm reclaimed wood surface for the second floor. This gives the home a cool contemporary appeal allowing it to blend with its surroundings thanks to the natural organic vibe.

Designed by Swaback Partners the ingenious home moves away from the general architectural style of the high Sierra region and uses wood in an extensive and sculptural fashion to create a truly distinct residence. The expansive wooden façade also complements the snow-clad slopes outside in a picture-perfect manner.

Private spaces located on the top level feature large glass windows offering unabated views of the colorful scenery all around. A stylish sunroom and a lavish pool in the backyard complete this affluent and relaxing Canadian residence.

One of my all-time favorite design books is written in 1986 and packed with amazing photos showcasing the latest in urban design from the ’80s. The book was given to my husband and me when we moved to our new place and I’ve returned to it time and time again when brainstorming design ideas for our home. Even though the book is now decades old there are some timeless images that speak to popular loft style: the chic modern vibe the industrial look and the artist’s dwelling.
